Team Blue Captures Inaugural BMC Ryder Cup

While Team Red takes things in stride.

A Tradition Has Begun
It was on a stupendiously glorious October day that the inaugural BMC Ryder Cup event was played. We had sunny skies, temps in the 80’s and a bit of a breeze. 2 teams of 20 faced off in a Ryder Cup style format. The first 6 holes were 4 Ball, i.e. Best Ball. The next 6 were Foursomes, i.e. Alternate shot. And the last 6 holes were Individual matches.
The first review of the leaderboard by onsite officials showed Team Red off to Red hot start. The ageless Bob Devereaux and Scott Nelson were putting the screws to Greg Wright and Rolf Sonnesyn. Same for Duane Sather and JAllen against Jim Ostenson and Tom Schauerman. But the rest of the team didn’t rally. After 4 ball, it was 5 to 5.
Foursomes started the landslide toward Team Blue. Team Blue took 5 matches. Team Red took 2. 3 of the matches were tied. Going into the singles. Team Blue had taken control.
And they did not take the foot off the pedal. Out of the 20 singles matches, Team Blue took 12 of them. 5 matches were tied and the Reds won 3. Good Night Gracie!
The match that gave Team Blue the 20.5 points to clinch the victory came from either Rick Danmeier or Jeff Spencer who played against Chuck Wait and Tom Russell respectively in the same foursome. Both won 2 Up. Congrats to both!
We are very happy to report that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in this event came off 18 with a smile on their face and said “Let’s do it again!” We listen. The tradition has begun!
