2026 Ed White Shootout Results
Ten of the most active participating BMC members teed off on Saturday, September 19th for the 21st annual Ed White Shootout. The event is a hybrid elimination format where it is stroke play for holes #1 – #5, with the 5 lowest net scores qualifying & moving on to the shootout or single elimination on holes #6 – #9.

Event Recap
It was a dark and drizzly day, but the competition could not have been more intense. At the end of the first 5 qualifying holes, we had 3 out of 5 players ready to move forward. It took a sudden death playoff on hole #5 to determine the final 2 players to qualify for the shootout portion of the competition.
Hole #6, on the first shootout hole our defending champion Chris Eckes hit a big drive into the tall grass right of the bunker. He unfortunately had to take an unplayable lie with a 1 stroke penalty which was the deciding factor eliminating him from the shootout by 1 stroke. The 4 remaining Jirsa, Whitcomb, Dykstra, & Tanner moved on to the next hole.
Hole #7, Tanner connected with a great tee shot, as it hit the green but rolled across into the far bunker causing him to chip on & 2 putt for a bogie. Dykstra & Jirsa both parred & Whitcomb made birdie with a 3 foot putt. Tanner was eliminated leaving the other three players to move on.
Hole #8, Whitcomb made his second consecutive birdie (on in 3 & 1 putt) and was assured of moving forward to the final 9th hole. Meanwhile Dykstra & Jirsa both parred making them duel it out with a sudden death putt off. Both made great putts, but Jirsa was an inch closer to the hole also moving him on to the 9th hole with Whitcomb.
Hole #9, Jirsa & Whitcomb both put their drives in the rough on the right side of the cart path. As expected from these two, both made spectacular approach shots, Jirsa hitting the green while Whitcomb barely missing the green left. Unfortunately for Whitcomb, he chipped on then 2 putted for a bogie, while Jirsa lagged his putt to within an inch of the hole for a tap in par & becoming the 2026 Ed White champion.
Note, special recognition on his way to winning the event, Jirsa participated in & survived both sudden death playoffs on holes #5 & #8, well done.
Even on a dismal day, this was an exciting event & we encourage every BMC member to strive to be a player in the 2027 Ed White Shootout. You can qualify to play by gaining the most Ed White points, just sign up for leagues & events in 2027. Thanks to all the competitors this year & special congratulation to Phil Jirsa for his outstanding play. We are looking forward to another great year of golf in 2027.

Event Details
The Ed White Shootout is a special event that recognizes active participation among our members. The event is named after a long-time BMC member, Ed White, who exemplified the kind of active leadership for which our club is known.
The 2026 Event will be held on Saturday September 19th. Tee times will start at 4:00PM
You accumulate points for every official BMC event in which you participate:
- 3 Points for playing in each Weekly League.
- 4 Points for playing in a Major.
- 1 Point for Volunteers.
Those with the most points will be invited to participate in the Ed White Shootout which happens at the end of the season. The BMC will cover the greens fees so there is no cost involved to the participants.

Anyone who thinks they would like to be a part of this shootout should sign up for as many BMC events as possible. Each event gives you points toward qualifying for the EWS. We hope to see you next season on hole #1 as we tee off for another exciting Ed White Shootout.
